Wednesday Wisdom

Our founder, Tracy Fink, shares inspirational and compassionate thoughts in her weekly YouTube series.

YouTube Video VVVFYlZlSTVmMm8zSURqV2s5NXhCdUhRLlJSYjFMNFdLTFhN A common misconception is that people who do inner work do not feel anger, anxiety or other negative feelings. That is just not true. Today’s Wednesday Wisdom highlights the importance of welcoming all feelings to get access of who we really are.

When the news is bad or we listen only to our inner critic, we can respond differently. When we remember. With practice we can learn to interrupt those regular negative thought patterns and replace them with wise and helpful ones. Visit www.positiveIntelligence.com to learn more and DM me if you want more info about taking the 6 week program at a discounted rate. Course begins May 7.

Today’s Wednesday Wisdom on Friday explorers how more men are turning to emotional intelligence in order to be better leaders and connect more meaningfully with the people they work and live with. In the U.S., men are socialized to believe that vulnerability is weak, to beat themselves up after a setback and to not ask for what they need. Unfortunately these behaviors are not an indication for success in today’s workplace. I work with men (and women) to pay attention, and to build empathy for themselves and others by questioning the truths of their stories. All of this takes great strength and perseverance. And it can be learned.

Today’s short Wednesday Wisdom reminds us that “we are all just walking each other home”. Ram Dass was talking about coming home to ourselves on a deep and most profound level. It’s also about “looking for the helpers”, coined by Mr. Rogers’ mother, who accompany us to get through tough times when the news is bad. They are often right next to you.

Taking wisdom and insight from Catherine May’s book, “Wintering”, today’s Wednesday Wisdom focuses on how we can navigate through seasons in our lives where we feel dark or frozen out. Asking ourselves what we can learn from this time and how we can give our bodies the rest we need in order to keep going. The invitation is to understand and accept that, like winter, dark times won’t last forever. We have to go through them without fear, humiliation or paranoia, remembering that summer is on the other side.

Today’s Wednesday Wisdom explores the concept of energy as a conduit to how we are all connected. We talk about power of connection from the philosophy of Albert Einstein and the Avis shuttle bus driver.

Today’s (super mellow) Wednesday Wisdom explores the notion of sharing gratitude, as a gift for someone. You will benefit as well. We round the year out with a poem about going home called “wild geese” by Mary Oliver.

For today’s Wednesday Wisdom listen to a poem called “my brain and heart divorced” by John Roedel. It is about how we can find refuge when the head and the heart are at war over who is to blame for our human messiness.

Today’s Wednesday Wisdom revisits the topic of self care as a movement to avoid burnout rather than as a response to it. Authentic self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting our well-being and pursuing happiness. It’s about having the ability, and the resources, to respond periods of stress so that they don’t lead to a health crisis. The research reminds us that our self-care impacts everyone around us. When we are willing to adopt and model good practices of self-care, we create healthier homes, workplaces and communities. And a healthier world!

Today’s Wednesday Wisdom looks at trust as a practice. Trust means relying on someone or something to do the right thing. We have to practice seeing that positive action and knowing that it is meant for us and can provide a sense of safety. Trust is confidence in ourselves and others, here and otherworldly.

Today’s Wednesday wisdom explores the concept of mental fitness from a Positive Intelligence standpoint. We all have judges and saboteurs that live inside us but we also have wise sage beings that live within us as well. When we pay attention to the sage voices of wisdom and clarity, we return to our true essence as a baby and are guided by insight, curiosity and love.

Forgiveness is a process and it’s hard. It’s also a choice. We can choose to let go of the anger without condoning the behavior. It can be truly liberating. On the flip side, apologizing gracefully and effectively is a learned skill. It’s all part of this complicated messiness that we called being human.

Inspirational Sayings

As you think about your own path to daring leadership, remember Joseph Campbell's wisdom: "The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek." Own the fear, find the cave, and write a new ending for yourself, for the people you're meant to serve and support, and for your culture. Choose courage over comfort. Choose whole hearts over armor. And choose the great adventure of being brave and afraid. At the exact time.

Brene Brown (Dare to Lead, page 272)

Be yourself (Authenticity)

When you have the courage to be yourself, you'll feel a freedom like no other. The right people will love the real, beautiful, and creative soul that you are - quirks and all. Take a stand for authenticity and openness. Believe in yourself. To be yourself is to be free.

Leadership is: Someone looks at the world and notices a hole in it. She thinks to herself, "This thing, this idea, this service, this kind of person should exist to fill that hole." She waits for a little while, thinking about that. And then she stops waiting and creates creating the thing herself. She becomes the person she was waiting for. She created the thing she needed.

Glennon Doyle

Keep going. That's all you have to do, ever. You really don't have to be amazing, or fierce or beautiful or successful or good. Just keep going, please. Slowly is fine. Crawling is fine. No feeling is final. Except hope.

Glennon Doyle

When I rise up let me rise up joyful like a bird. When I fall let me fall without regret like a leaf.

Wendell Berry

What a beautiful thing it is to be able to stand tall and say "I fell apart, and I survived."

Your body hears everything your mind says.

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it.

Meditation is a miracle drug. Side effects include: more focus, better memory, longer attention span, enhanced creativity, greater well-being.

I am learning to love the sound of my feet walking away from things not meant for me.

Be the women who fixes another woman's crown without telling the world it was crooked.

If you hang out with me for too long I'll brainwash you into believing in yourself and knowing you can achieve anything.

The time is now! Better "oops" than "what if".

Let whoever think whatever.

Frankly, there isn’t anyone you couldn’t love once you’ve heard their story.

Cathy Heller

The Bad News: Time Flies, The Good News: You are the Pilot

Motivational Director

When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over.  He does not need punishment, he needs help. That is the message he is sending.

John Doe

Thich Nhat Hanh

When the student is ready, the teacher appears.  When the student is truly ready, the teacher disappears.

Lao Tzu

Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded.  It’s a relationship between equals.  Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.

Pema Chodron
